La Vierge et l'Enfant / The Virgin and the Child / De Maagd en het Kind, part two, left hand and pedal

In the middle section of La Vierge et l'Enfant the left hand thumb plays a central role. If the staccato is well performed, it jumps from key to key with exactly the right amount of energy needed to pass the distance. The thumb then gets a pivot function in co-ordinating the movements of hands and feet, allowing the rest of the body to be in rest.

In het middendeel van La Vierge et l'Enfant speelt de duim van de linkerhand een centrale rol. Als het staccato goed wordt uitgevoerd, springt deze van toets naar toets met precies de juiste hoeveelheid energie die nodig is om de afstand af te leggen. De duim krijgt dan een spilfunctie in het op elkaar afstemmen van bewegingen van handen en voeten, waardoor de rest van het lichaam in rust kan zijn.
