Les Bergers / The Shepherds / De Herders, part one

I like to think of this passage as a descent of awareness among the shepherds that something extraordinary has happened. Just before pressing each new chord, the fingers feel the keys very briefly, to have optimum control of touch. The melodies at the end of this video are played with a similar elegance as many of the bird songs in later works.

Ik zie deze passage als het neerdalen van een besef temidden van de herders dat er iets buitengewoons is gebeurd. Net voor het indrukken van ieder nieuw akkoord voelen de vingers heel kort de toetsen, om optimale controle over het toucher te hebben. De melodieën aan het slot van deze video worden met een zelfde soort elegantie gespeeld als vele van de vogelgezangen in latere werken.
