The tempo of this piece is 'extremely slow'. It is completely given up to religious contemplation and very typical of Messiaen. The performer may think of a natural phenomenon, rather than an expression of human feelings. The video shows in particular the thumb and second finger of the right hand, which have a central role in playing the melody. See the previous blog post for a video of the left hand.

Het tempo van dit stuk is 'uitzonderlijk langzaam'. Het staat geheel in het teken van religieuze contemplatie en is zeer kenmerkend voor Messiaen. De uitvoerder kan eerder denken aan een natuurverschijnsel dan aan een uitdrukking van menselijke emoties. De video laat in het bijzonder de duim en de wijsvinger van de rechterhand zien, die een centrale rol hebben in het spelen van de melodie.
